Yes, you may have guessed it but I am talking about Fiesta Week in Santa Fe New Mexico!

Every September one of the most popular things to do in New Mexico is to converge on Santa Fe New Mexico for a week of events and fiestas in the Capitol of our great state.  Fiesta week is full of Cultural eveLiving in New Mexiconts remembering the retaking of the City of Santa Fe by Spanish Conquistador Don Diego de Vargas in 1692. Fiesta Week began as a celebration for these events and dates all the way back to 1712. It all begins with the Novena Masses and the coronation for the annually selected Don Diego de Vargas and the Reina de Santa Fe.  Fiesta week is highlighted by a number of great events. Here are some of our favorites that you should definitely check out.

The Burning of Zozobra

Definitely one of the biggest of all of the events with thousands attending to witness the afternoon event known as the Burning of Zozobra or “Old Man Gloom”. Zozobra is a huge Marionette (50ft to be exact), built every year for the town to gather round at Fort Marcy park in order to burn away their glooms that they cast on him each year. The event starts in the afternoon with live music and food and finalizes around 10pm when Zozobra is set ablaze. This year the event is Friday Sept. 2nd and begins at 2pm ending at 10pm. Place Downtown at Fort Marcy Park.  Need tickets make sure that you get them ahead of time since people come from all over the state for this event.

Downtown Santa Fe Plaza

Starting this weekend the Downtown Plaza will be teeming with different events that will stretch out across all of Santa Fe Pet ParadeFiesta Week. Fiesta Week will be commencing with Zozobra tomorrow night and ending on September 11th this year. The Plaza of Santa Fe is definitely the place to be during the week. Check out the Fine Arts and Crafts Market right on the plaza. Food stands with delicious food will be open for you to endulge in while you enjoy the local events. The Pet parade is a great family event with children and pets alike all dressed up as they parade around downtown.
