Canyon Road
Half a mile of galleries, and the homes tucked behind them.

The place
Canyon Road began as a farm road along the Santa Fe River and became one of the best-known art streets in the country. Behind the galleries, and up the side lanes and Upper Canyon Road, are some of the most private historic homes in Santa Fe.
What to love
- More than eighty galleries at the end of the driveway
- Friday evening openings and the Christmas Eve farolito walk
- Upper Canyon Road’s larger lots and river frontage
- Geronimo, The Compound, and the Teahouse for dinner
- Character
- Lively on the road itself, especially on Friday evenings and during the Christmas Eve farolito walk. Remarkably quiet a hundred feet back. The farther up the canyon you go, the larger the lots and the closer the mountains.
- Architecture
- Historic adobes and compounds in the lower stretch; larger Pueblo-style homes with acreage and river frontage toward the top of Upper Canyon Road. Many properties pair a residence with a studio, a nod to the artists who settled here in the 1920s.
- What you’ll find
- Gallery buildings with residences above, historic compounds, and estate properties near the Randall Davey Audubon Center.
- Lifestyle
- Galleries, restaurants, the river trail, and the Dale Ball and Atalaya trailheads at the top of the road. The road is busy with foot traffic in the afternoon; evenings are calm.
- Getting around
- Runs east from Paseo de Peralta into the foothills. Part of the Historic Eastside district.
- Who it suits
- Collectors, artists, and anyone who wants the center of Santa Fe’s art life within walking distance.
