The place

North of Tesuque, Highway 285 drops into the Pojoaque valley, a string of villages along the Pojoaque and Nambé rivers with orchards, acequias, and the pueblos of Pojoaque and Nambé. It is Northern New Mexico at its most layered, and a place where buyers find land and water at prices the city can’t match.

What to love

Character: Rural and multicultural. Pueblo lands, Hispanic villages, and newer homes share the valley. The Rio Grande is close, and the light on the Jemez at sunset is the reason people stay.
Architecture: Adobe farmhouses, Northern New Mexico pitched-roof houses, and newer Pueblo-style homes on acreage.
What you’ll find: Homes on irrigated acreage, small farms, and view lots on the mesas.
Lifestyle: Growing things, riding, and the Buffalo Thunder resort and casino for dining and golf. Chimayó and the High Road to Taos begin here.
Getting around: Along Highway 285/84 north of Tesuque, twenty to twenty-five minutes from the Plaza. Santa Fe County; some lands are pueblo trust land.
Who it suits: Buyers who want land and water, Lab commuters who want to be between Santa Fe and Los Alamos, and anyone drawn to the valley’s pace.
